Shape Local is the community-powered data engine for local areas. It started as one town's live ideas board in Gosport, and it works because it asks almost nothing of the person taking part: your first name, your ward, and what you actually think.

The philosophy

A first name and a ward

That is the whole identity. No accounts, no passwords, no profile to maintain. Enough to know a voice is local and real, never enough to make it a target.

Friction is the enemy

Most people will give thirty seconds to their town, not thirty minutes. If an idea takes longer to post than it took to have, the idea is lost — and with it the person who had it.

Places, not platforms

Every Shape site belongs to one place. It speaks that place's language, names its streets and wards, and answers to the people who live there.

Open by default

Ideas, priorities and pitches sit in the open where residents, traders and councillors can all read the same board. No private inbox, no filtered summary.

Signal, not sentiment

Shape Local turns thousands of small local opinions into structured data about what a place loves, what it needs, and what it wants next — the engine under every Shape site.
